New Towns Along the Kearney and Black Hills Line

A June 1, 1890 notice in the Kearney Enterprise described active plans for new towns along the Kearney and Black Hills Railroad between Eddyville and Callaway. The article stated that several men had been assigned to take charge of town affairs and push those places forward.

Between Eddyville and Callaway, a stretch of roughly seventy-five miles, eight towns were expected along the line: Amherst, Hancock, Sumner, Eddyville, Lomax, Oconto, Lodi, and Olax.

In Eddyville, A. L. Clark was placed in charge. The article described him as a former night clerk at the Midway Hotel and noted that he had already been over the ground. Although there were only a few houses in Eddyville at the time, the citizens believed progress could begin quickly.
